prof. dr hab. inż. Julita Dunalska

University of Gdańsk

Full professor at the University of Gdańsk, Head of the Center for Water Monitoring and Protection. Her research focuses on the protection and restoration of lakes, nutrient cycling, organic matter transformation, and the effects of climate change on aquatic ecosystems. She is author or co-author of over 130 publications and numerous expert reports. A Fulbright scholar at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she is an active member of several scientific organizations, including GLEON and the UNESCO IHP National Committee. She also served on the National Council of Water Management and as editor in the Polish Journal of Natural Sciences.

prof. dr hab. Monika Normant-Saremba

University of Gdańsk

Oceanographer and professor at the University of Gdańsk, Head of the Department of Marine Ecology and the Laboratory of Ecophysiology and Bioenergetics. Her research addresses the biology and ecology of aquatic organisms, especially the adaptations of benthic invertebrates to natural and anthropogenic stressors. She also studies non-indigenous species and their ecological and economic impacts. She has conducted research in Germany, authored numerous scientific works, and actively contributes to marine environmental protection through ICES, HELCOM, and the Polish Academy of Sciences.

prof. UG, dr hab. Anita Lewandowska

University of Gdańsk

Oceanographer and professor at the University of Gdańsk, Head of Laboratory of Biogeochemical Cycling of Elements at the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography (University of Gdańsk). Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of environmental pollution, especially the atmosphere, and the processes occurring at the sea – atmosphere interface. She is author or co – author of about 100 publications, monographs and scientific essays. She has broad international experience, including participation in COST 729 Actions on „Aassessing and managing nitrogen fluxes in the atmosphere-biosphere system in Europe”, and membership of several international networks and projects, like BAEX, BASYS, BERLIOZ, ANICE, BERLIOZ, EUSAAR, ACTRIS etc. She is Editor-in-Chief of Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies and Editor in Atmosphere.

prof GUT, dr hab. inż. Katarzyna Jankowska

Gdańsk University of Technology

An oceanographer and Professor at Gdańsk University of Technology, she works at the Department of Technology in Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Gdansk Tech). Her research focuses on the microbiology and ecology of aquatic environments and on microbiological aspects of water and wastewater technologies, with particular emphasis on coastal and polar ecosystems. She has conducted research in the Arctic and Antarctica, spending over two years in Spitsbergen (including a one-year stay at the Polish Polar Station Hornsund) and over three months in Antarctica. She is the author of numerous publications and leads scientific and educational projects. She serves as Gdansk Tech’s delegate to the Council of the Polish Polar Consortium and is a member of the Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is also the founder and academic supervisor of the Gdansk Tech Student Scientific Club „Microbiology in Environmental Engineering”.

prof. GUMed, dr hab. inż. Maciej Tankiewicz

Medical University of Gdańsk

Associate professor at the Medical University of Gdańsk and Acting Head of the Department of Environmental Toxicology. Specialist in the field of environmental health and the head of the environmental health studies program. His research focuses on food toxicology, ecotoxicology and the impact of changes in the environment on human health. He pays particular attention to health risks resulting from exposure to pesticides and endocrine active substances. He actively participates in activities for public space, including the adaptation of cities to climate change and improving the quality of life of residents. Member of the Polish Society of Environmental Medicine, Polish Chemical Society, Polish Society of Toxicology and Gdańsk Scientific Society.

dr hab. inż. Andrzej Reindl

Medical University of Gdańsk

Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Toxicology, Medical University of Gdańsk. He holds a PhD in Earth Sciences (marine chemistry), a law degree, and is a certified court expert in environmental protection. His research explores toxic and genotoxic substances in the environment and their impact on human health and occupational exposure. He also works as an environmental risk management expert at the law firm PORT PRAWA, is a certified lead auditor of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 systems, and author of numerous environmental reports and analyses.

Iwona Bubak PhD

University of Gdańsk

Assistant professor at the Division of Marine Ecosystem Functioning at the University of Gdańsk. Her research interests focuse on taxonomy, biodiversity, and ecology of marine and lake phytoplankton and phytobenthos, with particular emphasis on diatoms; the use of biological indicators in assessing the ecological status of aquatic environments and in paleoecological reconstructions; natural and anthropogenic causes of aquatic environmental transformation. She also isolates and cultivates algae from freshwater and marine environments. She also teaches at a summer schools on the identification of diatom phytobenthos and water pollution in the Gulf of Gdańsk, as well as workshops for schoolchildren presenting tchem life (on a microscale) in water.

Włodzimierz Golus PhD

University of Gdańsk

Limnologist and hydrologist at the Centre for Water Monitoring and Protection, University of Gdańsk. His research interests include the circulation of water and matter in natural and artificial reservoirs, processes of degradation and disappearance of small water bodies under human pressure and climate change, and the functioning of large coastal and urban lakes. He combines academic research with teaching and environmental education, actively promoting ecological awareness.

Maciej Markowski PhD

University of Gdańsk

Head of the Laboratory of Geographic Information Systems at the University of Gdańsk and Software Application Developer at Boeing Poland. He holds a PhD in Earth Sciences and has over 17 years of experience in GIS technologies, spatial data transformation (ETL), and geospatial analyses. His expertise includes GIS, remote sensing, and navigation data for environmental analyses and application development. He has authored numerous publications, participated in national and international projects, and serves as Head of Postgraduate GIS Studies and member of the Polish National Committee for the International Cartographic Association.

Sambor Czerwiński PhD

University of Gdańsk

Paleoecologist specializing in palynological analysis to reconstruct environmental changes based on lake sediments and peat. His work focuses on human impact on vegetation over the past 2000 years, with research areas in Poland, Germany, Western Siberia, and Greenland. He teaches at the University of Gdańsk, offering courses such as Biogeography, Soil Science, and Environmental Reconstructions, integrating research with education.

Rafał Chmara PhD

University of Gdańsk

Assistant professor at the Department of Plant Ecology, University of Gdańsk. His research focuses on the hydrobiology and aquatic ecology, macrophytes and environmental conditions. He also studies the functional traits of aquatic plants belonging to different ecological/taxonomic groups in relation to environmental conditions and and functional adaptations to the local environment. He has authored numerous publications on aquatic plants ecology and lakes, combining academic research with with expert work in the area of biomonitoring and protection of lakes.
